If you have low ceilings - or you want to add some height to your already high ceilings, do it with stripes. Vertical stripes appear to elongate things and can make your room look as much as a foot taller than it really is. If you want it to be bold cover the entire room in wallpaper. If you want something a little subtler window treatments are a great alternative.
